Cone Health’s attorney argued that the standard of care was being followed when the organization prescribed and/or administrated transgender treatments for a minor patient:
Dr. Martha Perry and Moses Cone Hospital… disputed Mosley’s arguments.
“After medical evaluation and assessment of Plaintiff, Dr. Martha Perry diagnosed gender dysphoria,” according to Perry’s brief. “In providing treatment to Plaintiff, Dr. Perry complied with and followed the then-existing published medical guidelines. She met with Plaintiff and her parents to discuss various treatment options, including counseling, support groups, and medication. Before prescribing testosterone, she referred Plaintiff for a mental health assessment by a transgender specialist. Dr. Perry reviewed and discussed the risks and benefits of testosterone therapy, as contained in medical literature and published guidelines, with Plaintiff and her parents. After these discussions, Plaintiff and her parents all consented without objection to starting testosterone injections.”
“Once Plaintiff started testosterone, she reported improvement in her condition, which her parents also observed,” the brief continued. “She continued her transition by legally changing her name, remaining on testosterone for years, and having the breast surgery she decided she wanted before she went to the defendants for care. After moving to Florida, Plaintiff found a new doctor to prescribe testosterone, which she continued taking without concern or complaint.”
“Several years after receiving the treatment she requested (and celebrated), Plaintiff changed her mind about her gender identity, decided to stop her gender transition, and began to complain about the medical professionals who provided the care she sought,” Perry’s brief added.
Remain mindful that Mosley was 16 or 17 years old when these “treatments” were administered by Cone Health.
I am not aware that any of the regional mainstream media is covering this story. I suppose the allure of advertising dollars from Cone Health overrides any semblance of journalistic tenacity to report the truth.
