Election Notes: Stein, Goebel

A couple of interesting election-related stories were reported within the first couple of days.

First, State Attorney General Josh Stein is refusing to debate his opponents, including but not limited to Lt. Governor Mark Robinson. Stein justified his refusal by vilifying Robinson, but clearly he is depriving the people of the state of North Carolina of the information they need. Why is he doing this? To protect his lead in the polls.

The state’s regional mainstream media ought to hold Stein’s feet to the fire demanding at least one debate, but they probably will not.

Second, there were some minor fireworks at a debate for the Guilford County school board when Republican candidate Michael Logan referred to independent candidate Bill Goebel as “despicable”. There is a long history of Goebel– a former Republican– cozying up to the local education establishment to wrestle away a seat on the school board from Logan. Then Logan prevailed in court. Goebel is now running as an independent; and this could very well result in the socialist candidate winning the seat. I cannot be sure whether that is Goebel’s intent.

In view of the above history, however, Logan’s characterization of Goebel is not entirely inaccurate.

  1. As for the Goebel/Logan affair , the Democrats have proven to be petty and highly partisan. I suspect they would be satisfied with a socialist member.

Stein is an empty suit and by debating he would expose his liberal philosophy.

    1. I agree, Fred. Goebel is a problem, and we have had too many like him in Guilford County and Greensboro– alleged Republicans who betray conservatives.

It really appears it will be easy for Stein to avoid this debate because he has the media on his side.
