Becerra was involved in the shady deal to grant Carlos Vignali an early release from his 15 year Federal prison sentence . The US Attorney in Minnesota who prosecuted Vignali was upset about about the deal.. and the Federal District Court Judge who tried the case wrote a blistering letter to the USDOJ pardon attorney opposing the commutation.
As a then-congressman representing Los Angeles, Becerra—along with other local politicians and officials—contacted the White House and Justice Department and wrote a letter to President Clinton in late 2000 asking for an evaluation and review of Vignali’s case.
Reports later highlighted that Vignali’s wealthy father, Horacio Vignali, had been a donor to Becerra’s political campaigns and also paid $200,000 to Hugh Rodham (the First Lady’s brother) to lobby for the clemency.
On January 20, 2001 (his final day in office), President Bill Clinton commuted the 15-year federal prison sentence of Carlos Vignali Jr.,
Ham Jordan called Bill and Hillary Clinton the ‘ Grifters .
And Vignali walks free .
Oh, and Becerra’s nomination was confirmed.
He doubtless got Republican votes in the Senate, Fred.
Becerra is the prototypical socialist sleazeball. But many of them are like that.
