  1. Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

After scrutinizing Roosevelt’s record for four years, Cole and Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.

    That is all folks…..

    1. Absolutely true. Destroying huge numbers of farmers’ hogs that could have fed people. Confiscating the people’s gold and defaulting on bonds used to finance WWI. Cartelizing industries. Treating corporations as the enemy. FDR was probably worse than Obama. He was incredibly dishonest (as the people who worked for him would readily admit; or just look at his campaign promises compared to what he did) and extremely vindictive (his vindictiveness toward heroically good people like Andrew Mellon and Lindbergh was relentless and contemptible). FDR was a mephitic piece of excrement.

  2. Prof. Stonge has it right, tho’ be aware the ‘borrowing half of what is being spent’ was only for the most recent month, May. Still, indicative that the Bibi/Trump-instigated war is exploding spending even beyond the predicted $2 trillion deficit.

  3. Thanks for the brief summary history, J. Sobran. It’s almost as if the topic justifies an extended look once again. There used to be folks who were vehemently opposed to what Roosevelt was doing; but as time has passed, it fades into distant memory.
