The divinity school at Duke has during recent years been a liberal mainline haven. Its heritage is mostly United Methodist. It has not been a place for biblical orthodox Christianity.
I was therefore surprised when I learned belatedly that a faculty member there is a major skeptic on transgender treatments for minors; and has taken a public stand against it. His name is Dr. Farr Curlin. He is a physician who focuses on bioethics and religion.
I don’t know whether this might be because he enjoys tenure; or if it is because the school recognizes the new political environment that arose when Trump was elected 18 months ago.
In any case, I am glad we have a bioethics expert with a religious emphasis at a major academic institution in North Carolina calling out the nonsense.
Yes, it is encouraging to see this type of dissent from the orthodoxy. We need more of this kind of rebellion at our colleges and universities.
Absolutely, Fred. It was very unexpected to see this come from Duke in any way, shape or form.
We have two types of institutions represented here that need reform– the typical university and the typical liberal mainline seminary.
