The News and Record has the details. A large number of individuals dedicated to undermining the police attended the session; and many spoke.
One of them fusses about traffic stops. This is one of the few proactive tools police have in a city that is sprawling and dependent on the automobile. Traditional “beat” policing is much more difficult in a place like Greensboro. Do you place a cop on the beat in every apartment complex?
Of course, the attendees and speakers don’t discuss repairing the black family, the dissolution of which is a key contributor to problems with crime in the black community. Police must monitor predominantly black sections more intently because of the murders and high crime rates.
The N&R’s editorial and hard news views are almost indistinguishable. This inveterate rabble rousing is shameful and does not send a welcome to the Chief of Police. Good luck to Kamran Afzal in his starting days. This will a troublesome and difficult time.
It has been literally decades they have been doing this, Fred. Do you think they might find some new tricks?
The N&R just won’t let go of that bone.
Friday’s front page, above the fold Mau Mau story championing the movement to fire the new Chief before he reports for duty.

It’s amazing, Fred, how this crowd has the power to have their grievances magnified. Fortunately, if the TV stations don’t report it, many will not know about it because relatively few read the newspaper anymore.
