NC Sheriffs Bill, Jefferson Griffin Race, UNC Chapel Hill Gain-of-Function Research

There has been a cluster of news regarding our state government over the last couple of days.

First, the General Assembly did override Cooper’s veto. It is thus now state law that county sheriffs must cooperate with federal immigration authorities. It eliminates in some important respects “sanctuary county” status that county sheriffs had previously declared with their actions. This will affect the county sheriff here in Guilford. Great news.

Second, Jefferson Griffin now trails Allison Riggs by approximately 700 votes in the State Supreme Court race. He has requested a recount and has filed legal protests over 60,000 votes that had been cast, presumably under shady circumstances.

Third, the former director of the CDC, Robert Redfield, has openly stated that the Covid-19 virus was likely engineered at a UNC-Chapel Hill laboratory. Official North Carolina continues to openly ignore this situation after having granted Ralph Baric a high profile award three years ago for his gain-of function research leading to the development of the Covid vaccines.
