I recently had the opportunity to read a book called Education, Christianity and the State. It is a collection of writings and speeches authored one century ago by J. Gresham Machen, a prominent conservative theologian and seminarian.
Machen strongly opposed public education, but he also opposed Christian schools receiving governmental monies or support. He had the foresight back then to understand that governmental control or support of education– public or private– would have awful impacts. His predictions now have come to fruition; and he has proved to be prophetic on these issues.
Republicans in the state of North Carolina have brought us Charter Schools and later Opportunity Scholarships. Private and Christian schools in our state have begun accepting the monies from these Opportunity Scholarships. While these measures have had a temporizing effect, freeing families from the dystopian clutches of public schools, ultimately there will be major problems when the pendulum swings back and the socialists regain control in the state of North Carolina.

This threat even potentially affects home schoolers if they accept the government money.
