1. Lipstick on a pig. Trump’s new taxes (tariffs of great unpredictability), massive deficit spending, & catastrophic wars drive up costs on everything. While credit is due to the administration for closing the border and crime reduction, I don’t think that will be on the minds of many voters whose credit card debt is soaring. REAL retail sales have not increased since March 2021–in fact they are down almost 2% from that peak.

   Food costs are likely to go up even worse, because the fertilizer shortage from the stupid assault on Iran will not hit the US till the fall crop.

   The best way to fight socialism is to properly define it as institutionalized stealing. An ideology to justify the government becoming fully organized crime.

   1. What I would emphasize, J. Sobran, was that Trump’s program was yielding real dividends during the first term for the American people by the time early 2020 rolled around. Then Covid happened. The deficits were bad prior to Covid but not nearly as stratospheric as they are now.

      I agree that the war is a major problem.

      But I think Vance’s points are accurate, in spite of the bad choices that have been made. MAGA is not remotely perfect because it spends too much and does not respect constitutional limits on the federal government. But it is better than establishment Republicanism and whatever the democratic socialists have to offer.

      A big part of MAGA’s problem is the establishment GOP’s hold on the congressional majority– in both houses. The entire period since 2020 in Congress has been a failure. For instance, I think Trump would have signed better budget bills if the GOP Congress had produced them. Arguably, perhaps he should have vetoed the garbage they produced.
