From FY 2021 to FY 2025, total Medicaid expenditures in North Carolina increased from $18.14 billion to $35.77 billion, or an incredible 97.2 percent…
From FY 2021 to FY 2025, Medicaid expenditures from all revenue sources as a share of total expenditures in North Carolina increased from 32.8 percent to 39.9 percent. Over the same period, the average share across Southeastern states declined slightly from 28.4 percent to 28.3 percent, while the national average increased modestly from 24.7 percent to 28.1 percent.
InĀ FY 2025, only three states devoted a larger share of total expenditures to Medicaid than North Carolina.
The article points out that reducing contributions to Medicaid from provider taxes and the impending fiscal crisis at the federal level will create more pressure on the state.
And the Republicans have been in charge.
The Medicaid expansion to cover 700,000 ABLE-BODIED ADULTS! is a venal crime perpetrated through abject politicians like Republican Donnie Lambeth who are funded by the medical-industrial complex. Given that the unsustainable nature of NC’s Medicaid expenditure explosion exceeds the expansion factor, reversing the expansion should be done immediately. Of course the corrupt medical establishment will spend lavishly to prevent that and the existing law that calls for the expansion to be undone under the new Federal funding requirements.
I’m going to send the John Locke article to my state senator.
J. Sobran, Medicaid was very generous in NC even prior to Medicaid expansion. It offers many services and benefits that are considered optional under the Medicaid program. It has offered near-universal coverage of minors. In fact, Medicaid needed to be cut, but it was instead expanded.
Once the camel gets its nose under the tent, the game is over. Right Mr. Berger ?
The nose is definitely beneath the tent, Fred. Berger and company will have a hard time unpacking what they have built, even if there is a will to do so. I am not so sure there will be.
