Greensboro City Council Turns Further Left

The results of the Greensboro City Council elections are pretty clear. The city is taking a sharp turn even further leftward than it already is.

Marikay Abuzuaiter delivered a landslide victory over Robbie Perkins. We can only hope that she will be a stabilizing force on the new city council.

Two deeply entrenched incumbents– Zack Matheny and Sharon Hightower– are losing their seats. Matheny’s replacement will be April Parker.

Irving Allen was elected, somewhat unexpectedly, to an at-large seat along with Denise Turner-Roth and Hugh Holston. All three at-large members will be African-American. Overall, the council will have a 6-3 black majority.

In district 4, Adam Marshall easily defeated Nicky Smith.

In particular, the Allen and Parker victories represent pick-ups for the extreme left. Allen was previously involved with BLM and Nelson Johnson. The new council members in district 1 and 2– i.e., east Greensboro– will also be extreme left. There will be a heavy Marxist presence on the new city council.

There will not be a single conservative– or even a single Republican.

We are at risk of Greensboro becoming a much worse place to live.

  1. Why not just hang the hammer and sickle behind the dais in the city council meeting room? After all, that’s what the voters chose.
