Mercy Hill Pastor On “Racial Injustice”

Mercy Hill is a Southern Baptist church started by J.D. Greear here in Greensboro over a decade ago. It has enjoyed enormous growth; and recently built a large new building on a piece of land near the airport.

The following is a sermon delivered by its pastor, Andrew Hopper, in the immediate aftermath of the George Floyd incident and riots. Recall that this was during the Covid pandemic; and it appears the sermon was virtual, and therefore was not live before the congregation. See what you think about the message:

  1. The message was a mixed bag. Knowing that the church ( Mercy Hill ) was started by J.D. Greear caused me to view the sermon with a jaundiced eye. I guess we will see if Mercy Hill continues to grow or withers on the vine.

    1. I think, Fred, there was a considerable lack of wisdom and sober-mindedness regarding the events that had just transpired, and whether that compelled a particular response. I just shook my head. As you know, the whole thing turned out to be a huge fraud; and an excuse for violence and widespread destruction.

But that church has experienced huge growth, and I expect it will have more of the same.
