More Local Manifestations Of The Election Day Bloodbath

Make no mistake about it. Republicans in local/ regional races suffered tremendously because of the failures of GOP elected officials in Washington.

Over the last 24 hours, I learned a bit more about some of the defeats in local races. While I cannot claim to be exhaustive since the Piedmont Triad encompasses numerous counties, it is worth noting a couple of additional items.

First, long-time Sheriff Terry Johnson lost his re-election bid in Alamance County.

Second, District Attorney Jim O’Neill lost his race in Forsyth County in spite of being endorsed in a very public fashion by the Democratic county sheriff. Recall that O’Neill had previously run for statewide office.

Finally, the Republicans lost two NC House seats in Alamance County. That fact, combined with Sheriff Johnson’s defeat, raises the question of whether Alamance is in the process of becoming a blue county. It was previously a reliable red county.

With regard to the numbers in Congress, additional races are getting clarified. It now appears the socialists will have nearly 260 seats in the US House, and 55 in the US Senate.
