A couple of points:
First, it was already clear that Hamilton is LGBT friendly, as evidenced by this article– https://www.christianpost.com/news/pastors-urge-adam-hamilton-to-repent-drop-out-of-race.html . It is pretty clear this was likely a same-sex offense.
Second, the Biden administration had gone after a conservative denomination– the Southern Baptist Convention– over sexual abuse issues, and there was national mainstream media attention coverage. Let’s see how this is covered.
Third, if this event took place twenty years ago, it should be noted that the Catholic church had already been widely recognized and reported to have issues in this area. It was not as this was a new issue. He should have gotten the police involved at the first instance.
