One of the good things about North Carolina’s divorce law is that it requires a “cooling off” separation period of one year before divorce can be pursued.
A group of democratic socialists in the General Assembly, however, have instigated a bill that would cut that time dramatically. (HT: Margo on X)
Fortunately, the bill appears to be stuck in the Rules Committee where bills are sent to die.
I think we ought to eliminate no-fault divorce completely in the state of North Carolina, and instead institute Covenant Marriage. Three states now have Covenant Marriage laws.
We ought to be enhancing the stability of the family unit instead of creating legal vehicles to tear it down.
