Greensboro City Council Members Scapegoating City Staff For Their Own Negligence

An interesting pattern is developing. Readers might recall that the city of Greensboro has gotten itself into trouble with the state because it allowed its financial reserves to fall well below what is ordinarily expected.

The city council has been publicly and overtly blaming city staff for failing to inform them of this situation.

This is very interesting. It ought to be regarded as blame-shifting or scapegoating.

In fact, it is the city council’s job to remain on top of the city’s finances and to watch over the purse like a hawk. These council members are analogous to board members of a corporation.

Instead, they are constantly brainstorming about how to spend more money and redistribute it from taxpayers to favored persons or entities. That is what they regard as their their raison d’etre.

It is THEIR spending that has gotten the city into trouble– not the actions of city staff. They need to grow up and take responsibility.
