Many folks from North Carolina don’t know about this corrupt deal.
A number of utilities were attempting to get a state permit for a natural gas pipeline they were seeking to place in the eastern part of the state. This was to be the Atlantic Coast Pipeline– a project that was later canceled.
Roy Cooper and his staff extorted Duke Energy to fund a multimillion dollar slush fund they would distribute to favored entities. Also, Duke Energy was required to contract with a solar company that had done business with Cooper’s family. Some of his family’s land had been used as a solar farm.
This is a red hot scandal that ought to have triggered further action against Cooper. But the people of the state need to be educated about what happened, and why it was so serious. Cooper and his people used their power over permits that influence the provision of reliable energy to feather their own nests and those of their allies.
People need to know about it.
