County Commissioners Funding Non-Profits: Look At The Bigger Issue

Scott Yost has an article at the Rhino Times about the county commissioners’ budget funding various non-profits. The article is entirely factual; and it aroused numerous comments from those outraged over the excesses. The non-profits, of course, tended to intersect with the political interests of the socialists. They were overwhelmingly black/ multicultural/ female/ artsy with an occasional Islamic non-profit and donor-related interest thrown into the mix. The anger expressed by the Rhino commenters is justified.

But in spite of this outrage, the total amount directed to these organizations is dwarfed by the amounts directed toward the county school system– both operational and capital. The socialists on the county commissioners’ board and the school board are very happy that this “elephant in the room” gets less attention and scrutiny while funding of non-profits gets skewered.

If appropriate attention were paid to the county schools system, we would learn a great deal about where huge amounts of money is being wasted. But there is little will to tackle this project. The legal lines of authority and the education establishment’s capture of the school board helps assure all the waste remains unexamined. But I can guarantee it is a much larger amount than the non-profit funding.
