HT: Carolina Plott Hound
A recent audit conducted by State Auditor Dave Boliek exposed a pattern of unemployment fraud in the State of North Carolina that dates back more than 15 years. It was particularly an issue during Roy Cooper’s two terms as governor, but persists today under Josh Stein.
Cooper’s handling of the Covid pandemic was disastrous on many levels. However, in the realm of unemployment benefits, it was egregious from the standpoint that it encouraged unemployment fraud. During the period from March, 2020 until May, 2021, Cooper did not require those on unemployment to demonstrate they were looking for a job. Employers could not get good help because workers discovered they could draw benefits without being challenged.
Roy Cooper took a wink/nod approach to unemployment fraud.
My suspicion and perception– as an employer– is that issues with unemployment fraud related to the Covid pandemic persisted well beyond May, 2021.
Cooper was an awful governor.
Cooper was equally awful on managing disaster aid.
Former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s disaster management drew heavy criticism, with state lawmakers and auditors citing severe backlogs, funding shortfalls, and lingering recovery projects following major storms like Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and Hurricane Florence in 2018.
Voters, please give Roy a ticket to the Villages.
Fred, NC voters often vote the wrong way. There really has to be a concerted effort to educate people about the reality of his record and what his election would bring to Washington.
The NC Department of Labor needs to be investigated as well. Let me know if you would like to hear about my claim from being wrongfully terminated and the NDOL denying my claim.
Hi, Lori– please feel free to use this comment thread if you wish to tell your story.
