House Bill 1232 was introduced within the last couple of weeks.
This proposed constitutional amendment would charge with murder “any person” who seeks to destroy human life at any stage of development. It further asserts a right to use lethal force for self-defense and also to defend other human lives.
This is a pretty edgy constitutional amendment because it would criminalize the pregnant mother who has an abortion; It also exculpates a person who uses force to prevent an abortion.
The measure was introduced by House members Keith Kidwell and Ben Moss. Kidwell is a conservative who was defeated by an establishment Republican in his recent primary.
I hope it passes, but doubt very strongly the Republican leadership will allow it to see the light of day. It was referred to the Rules Committee where bills are often sent to die.

On May 14, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked a lower-court order from Louisiana that would have restricted the nationwide distribution of the abortion pill mifepristone. This action preserves current FDA regulations, meaning mifepristone can continue to be prescribed via telehealth and dispensed through the mail or at retail pharmacies.
I don’t know if this was a stalling action or maybe a harbinger on the final decision.
I hope it was a stalling action, Fred. I think it is fairly routine for lower court decisions to be placed on hold if it is being appealed to higher levels.
Prescribing and disseminating this drug across state lines makes it impossible for the individual states to enforce their own abortion laws.
