Social security is a legal Ponzi scheme. Most workers would be better off if Social Security didn’t exist and they had saved the money they paid in payroll taxes in accounts that they owned and controlled instead.
Yes, somethings got to change . The current system is unsustainable.
It’s time to confront the painful but necessary truth that no matter what story politicians told, Social Security has always been an income transfer program, not a savings system. Today’s Social Security is increasingly burdening future generations with the threats of higher taxes and inflation. A more effective approach would design Social Security as a safety net to prevent senior poverty while empowering workers to have greater control over their retirement security.
Fred, it is really unfortunate what is going to happen. I think many folks will be taken by surprise.
I agree– it’s unsustainable.
You probably remember that George W. Bush floated a reform plan that would enable folks to have their contributions invested; but there was a bit of fussing politically and the proposal died quickly. That would have been a game changer.
The cliff will be sooner than 6 years, because a serious recession has already been dialed in by explosion of money printing during the Faucian dystopia.
He and Fred are right: SS is schematically a Ponzi scheme. Another expression of the inherent corruptness of government.
It’s really unfortunate, J. Sobran, that the system was designed as it was, and that it was then expanded to include disability. It’s something that never should have been undertaken at the federal level.
As a SS recipient, I could live with reduced benefits if the federal government would at the same time stop paying millions of working age, able bodied people to sit around robbing, rioting, murdering, growing fat as pigs and pumping out babies like rabbits, while they do nothing (legal) to provide for themselves — and fire the corrupt bureaucrats who live high on this criminal system and are never held accountable.
Good points, W.E. The entire system is corrupted, and that hurts all of us.
While you could live with the reduced benefits, I suspect many will not be able to do so. The political class devised this flawed system, enjoying all the accolades for their benevolence. They are long gone now, and current generations will pay the price because they did a terrible job.
