A study by the John Locke Foundation reveals that both Guilford and Forsyth Counties increased their property tax revenues greater than population growth and inflation should have justified.
Data was examined over the last ten years. If there is any consolation to be found in the study, it is that some counties were even worse than Guilford and Forsyth.
It is nice to get such good PR. ( -: ) Ha!
Fred, I think the socialists on the county commissioners’ board in Guilford are oblivious to PR. They don’t give a flip.
It is good that John Locke is focusing on it.
My impression that 2 things are behind the disproportionate increase in spending:
1. The Covid loot was treated by local governments as though it weren’t one-time money. Expansion flowing from that subsequently got funded locally.
2. County Commissioners find they can buy re-election by giving all manner of NGOs our tax money. The vested interests make sure they vote and contribute campaign money. Our county had quite steep tax increases, yet people feel like it is hopeless to do anything about it. The commissioners seem securely ensconced, with no vocal challenger.
We need to be able to expect more from these folks, J. Sobran. Indeed, we need to be able to expect better from VOTERS!
