Cooper’s Senate Candidacy And The Covid Lockdowns

Mitch Kokai has an article in the current issue of Carolina Journal that highlights the fact the state’s courts are re-examining former Governor Roy Cooper’s Covid lockdown policies.

One key provision in the state Constitution gives us a right to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Cooper invalidated that and several other constitutional rights in order to assert tyranny in the state of North Carolina.

Will that be an issue in the US Senate race? From Kokai’s article:

His actions during the COVID pandemic will be revisited and critiqued…

(C)ritics certainly will draw attention to other aspects of COVID-related lockdowns under Cooper’s watch, from hospital visitation restrictions to extended remote learning for homebound public school students.

Business owners, workers, and parents who struggled with government restrictions might recall Cooper’s shutdowns as they head to the ballot box. In a closely divided state, attacks on Cooper’s actions in 2020 and 2021 could make a difference.

This is a welcome debate that ought to take place. During Cooper’s 2020 re-election campaign, the fog of Covid and BLM– and his lockdown policies– prevented this issue from being aired out fully. I hope those opposing him hammer away at this issue.

  1. Even if his opponent is Tillis-clone Whatley, the Republican should start immediately branding his opponent “Lockdown Roy”, the man who shut down your churches & schools & small businesses… but let the big corporations reap the big bucks.
