I have studied the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia with all its internecine battles and the civil war. I have been to Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg the final resting place of the Romanov family.
There have been speculations of another civil war herein America. Certainly that is impossible but Antifa’s goals are tearing down our republic and replacing it with a Marxist form of government. While they are capable of causing sporadic chaos, they would be put swiftly down should they try any thing more ambitious. No worries.
I agree there are no immediate worries with Trump in charge, Fred. I wonder, though, whether the gradual, prolonged weakening of the will of the American people, together with the corruption of the Democrats, will make us vulnerable in the future. After all, the Democrats are Marxists who try to masquerade as something else. What they need is another major event and another uninterrupted period of Democratic rule.
And remember– the Republicans tend not to roll back the socialism we already have, and sometimes have advanced it.
‘Nihilists’ is a better term than “anarchists”, which isn’t a synonym for ‘chaos’–what Antifa tries to create–but simply means “without a ruler.” ‘Anti-civilization’ would be another apt adjective to describe Antifa. I’m glad the Trump administration is addressing this festering pestilence.
Such anti-civilization thoughts and actions as Antifa embodies easily & unwittingly become weapons of authoritarian lovers of power.
I agree overall with your comments, J. Sobran. But I am not so sure about the “unwittingly”. I think these folks know what they are doing, and where it leads. I think about the absurdity of a group that is represented to claim anarchy on the one hand, and Marxism on the other. The two are mutually exclusive, to the “nth” degree; and I suspect they know that.
You are probably closer to right than I am, Triad. I guess I said “unwittingly” because of my impression that most of the Antifa foot soldiers are actually nihilists rather than communists who have thought about communism seriously. But then how does a sentient being think about communism seriously (especially studying its history) and not reject it? And as you observe, anarchy (no ruler) & Marxism are near opposites. It is a world so remote from what I can conceive that I really shouldn’t opine.
I suppose their emergence is a relatively new phenomenon in the American experience, and we are still trying to figure it out. But the fact that the Democrats and the media are giving them cover suggests to me Antifa is pursuing ends of which they knowingly approve. As with many things, we will perhaps learn more later about the relationships between Antifa, the megadonors and the Democrats (of which the media are part).
Some attribute their emergence to the Deep State. I don’t know about that…
