Charlotte Murder And State/ Local Leadership

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said the following in response to the national uproar over the murder of a young woman on the city’s light rail:

“We will never arrest our way out [of] issues such homelessness and mental health…”

This statement made me think back to when I used to attend Greensboro City Council election forums and debates. I remember specifically residents of east Greensboro commenting, in response to crime discussions, that we “shouldn’t be arresting people”.

There is frustration in the black community over the large numbers of its young men who end up in jail and/or prison. But this is a profoundly ignorant response to a serious problem.

In fact, many more of these young men who commit criminal acts need to be arrested and imprisoned.

Charlotte has leadership that is reminiscent of what we have in Greensboro. But the question is what the response of our officials at the state level will be. It is their responsibility to act when local government is no longer doing its job.

Where is Governor Josh Stein? When will he act?

Where is pretty boy State Attorney General Jeff Jackson? What is he doing, and when will he act? After all, he is the state’s chief law enforcement officer. Of note is the fact that he comes from the Charlotte metro area’s democratic socialist political establishment.

Where are the legislative leaders in the North Carolina General Assembly who happen to be Republican?

This is a problem that must be fixed. We can’t have innocent people murdered in the state of North Carolina.

  1. The beloved Governor Stein spoke out about George Floyd, a Black man killed by a White police officer, but is not being as vocal for this murder, where a White woman was murdered by an alleged Black assailant.

Stein was Attorney General of North Carolina when Iryna Zarutska’s killer was arrested and released from jail 14 times. Yet he is no different than the rest of the Democratic politicians and their soul mates in the MSM . They remained silent for the longest time until the story went viral nationally.

    1. Fred, politicians like Cooper and Stein are typical of the democratic socialist approach– soft on crime, sowing disorder, pursuing racial identity politics. This is political malpractice.

And the people of the state of North Carolina elected them multiple times.
