Local Anti-Police Group Issues Demands, Finds Sympathetic Council Members

The News and Record has a story today about the “Rev.” C.J. Brinson and his group formed to oppose the police. This is the crowd that has been agitating in response to the ugly traffic stop that occurred in east Greensboro a few months ago.

Despite all the hoopla, the occupants of the vehicle have been charged for various offenses. There had been a legitimate basis for police to stop the vehicle.

Brinson and his group have issued multiple demands:

The group is making four demands to the city: a halt to regulatory stops, an end to safety frisks, requirements of written consent for searches and the firing of Officer McDaniel.

Stops and searches certainly ought to be conducted in a constitutional fashion. The problem is that this group is trying to take away from police very important tools they have to fight crime. In a city that sprawls, and where cars are the primary method of moving from one point to another, traffic stops are a critical tool for law enforcement.

If you take away traffic stops, you are making it impossible for police to enforce the law, prevent crime and find criminals.

We need to be extremely suspicious of this group. The fact they are demanding the officer to be fired is very revealing. Does this “Reverend” believe in forgiveness and restoration? Is he concerned about the behavior of the occupants of the vehicle and willing to hold them accountable? Is he willing to consider their contribution to the incident getting exacerbated?

Note also that the group has sought the assistance of four black city council members who are reportedly sympathetic with their complaints.

What are the chances the city council will handle this issue correctly?

  1. I wouldn’t bet this matter is handled justly.

Rev. Brinson and his supporters are on the edge of anarchy.

    1. These same debates, Fred, have been brewing for many decades. There is a certain element in the black clergy– and in the wider black community– that wants crime to be tolerated. It is very sad, but Satan is at work.

  2. The socialist Dems in our city/county will jeopardize the safety of everyone in order to prevent alienating their voting base.
