Greensboro’s “Five Year Plan” To Reduce Violence

Our local media, with much ballyhoo, announced Greensboro’s new Five Year Plan for public safety.

Note should be duly made of the fact that Communist China was very enthusiastic about five year plans.

On one level, it is obvious that the adoption of a five-year plan for policing and crime in Greensboro is an attempt to sidestep the perceived need for immediate action. It is an attempt to kick the can down the road a bit.

But on another level, it is an attempt to finesse a reluctance to deal with the real issues. It is an evasion.

It is a bureaucratic response to a real problem.

And it prescribes the wrong solution. What is really needed is aggressive, proactive policing and cultural change within the black community. The problem is that institutional Greensboro does not even remotely want those things.

  1. According to the stats in the “Plan” of the 274 murder victims between 2020-2024::

    69% black males (189 victims)
    14% black females (40 victims)

    8% white males (22 victims)
    2% white females (7 victims)

    Aggravated assault offenders were:

    922 black males
    131 white males

It’s a shame the whiz kids making this Plan aren’t able to see some kind of pattern or commonality in these crimes and direct their efforts at the folks causing the problem.

  2. A little aggressive law enforcement would be helpful to the community. Naw let’s stick with the same old tired nostrums ( just kidding )

  3. Crime isn’t like polio; you can’t discover THE cure and then it goes away.
This “Plan” is nothing more than virtue-signaling by politicians who have no more idea than you or I how to prevent crime, intended to convince people the politicians are going to save them from the boogeyman and insured continued voter support.
