Readers might recall that we have had two bond issues for school construction during recent years in Guilford County. The Republican commissioners had passed a smaller bond issue before they lost control. The socialist commissioner then passed a huge bond issue when they took over.
In any event, Scott Yost of the Rhino Times is estimating that the total to repay these two bond issues with interest will be $3.3. billion.
That is billion with a “b”.
The socialists are eager to hit us with ever-increasing taxes to pay for these bond issues. They will justify it by pointing to the fact that voters approved these bond issues. Those voters included large numbers of college students at A&T and UNCG who do not live permanently in Guilford County.
Meanwhile, parents are increasingly walking away from the traditional public schools in favor of charter schools and home schooling. And we have less children than we used to have because of cultural factors. That means we need less traditional public school space, but we keep building them anyway.
The socialist commissioners and school board members are doing us a huge disservice.
The school board is dominated by racists and socialists aided and abetted by Commissar Skip Alston .
I don’t miss the Peoples Republic of Guilford.
What aggravates the situation, Fred, is that taxpayers are getting absolutely nothing in exchange for all this money spent.
