    1. I doubt he does, Fred.

      I suspect he is right about this. Trump has tried to play it both ways with regard to Russia and Ukraine since the inauguration, but I hope this event grabs his attention. He has not been sounding triumphant about this since it happened.

      1. I don’t think Trump has been playing it both ways as much as he seems to be trying to get 2 hotheaded leaders to play nicer in an effort to lower the temperature of pending war. Remember, Trump wants ukraines rare earth minerals in exchange for peacekeepers in place to hold back Russia.
        It is disturbing on multiple levels that the deep state, still alive and plotting, hid this from Trump but what better way to sully his presidency this time around than to blame him for a war he didn’t start or escalate.

        1. He certainly doesn’t deserve the blame for this war, Jan, as you suggest. He is dealing with Republican legislators in positions of power in both the House and Senate who very much have pushed and supported this war. He is also dealing with a Deep State that instigated all the difficulties in Ukraine, and who also very much wanted this war. Finally, he still has to deal with the media. When he feels he has to satisfy all of them (at some level) and their desires for war against Russia– while also trying to advance peace– he has a very difficult juggling act.

    The Praetorian Guard, top dog of the DeepState, is in charge. Trump doesn’t have the nerve to do what is right: get the hell out of Ukraine and quit paying for the carnage. Just like he doesn’t have the nerve to cut spending.

    1. This is pretty stunning, J. Sobran, to witness and understand in real time. If our assessments are correct, this ought to be a really big deal. The concept of the President– the executive branch under the Constitution– being subservient to the Deep State is a concept the American people do not fully understand. Again, this assumes our assessments are correct.

      We would have to include Congressional leadership (both parties, including chairs of key committees) as being part of the Deep State. Congress, of course, has been a major driver of this whole episode.

      1. Trump was not informed in advance of the attack on the Russian strategic bombing fleet, which in keeping with the treaty is kept lined up openly on air fields. Bombing these planes kept like that as part of a treaty between the US and Russia (for purposes of trust) is a provocation to complete war! It’s part of their nuclear triad defense, kept out in the open for the sake of the US. Imagine if Russia had done that to us!

The members of the intelligence committees of the Senate and the House are absolute Swampy Deep State apparatchiks to a man. Actual freedom-oriented conservatives are never given committee chairmanships.

        Next time you hear someone say “our democracy,” you can be sure you are listening to a con man or an idiot.

        1. J. Sobran, during his first term, Trump knew he had to be careful with his official actions because he would be at risk of removal from office. He was effectively employed by Mitch McConnnell and his establishment GOP subordinates in the Senate.

          That is less true during his second term, but there is still a major element of “war party” Republicans in both houses of Congress. Trump has had to be mindful of antagonizing them.

            Triad, I thought that too until the last few days. But when I reflect on the grotesque Biden budget that is the BBB, the bombing of Russia’s strategic out-in-the-open nuclear fleet (having zero use in war against Ukraine) in the proxy war under Trump’s presumed control, the absence of any info true info on JFK, RFK, MLK, or Epstein, & zero attacking of Federal malfeasance, I think Trump has made a deal with the Devil=DeepState.

            I’m very pessimistic that Trump is anything but a bump on the road to authoritarianism.

          2. I can understand your concern, J. Sobran. There is ample reason to be discouraged. The Republicans fight among themselves and don’t get the right things done while the Deep State continues to prevail– at least at some level– while Rome burns. Meanwhile, China snickers.
