David Couch is stirring again. He is now seeking to annex part of his land in Summerfield into Greensboro to facilitate a 268-unit development. I suspect he feels he will not get what he wants from Guilford County.
Greensboro is profoundly awful politically in so many ways. It is difficult to imagine its denying this request. Its history has been avarice toward taking over surrounding lands.
This risks setting off a chain reaction. Summerfield residents, who have ample reason to regard the city of Greensboro with distance and suspicion, could potentially be surrounded with this mess in the long run.
Residents can thank the Raleigh Republicans for this entire series of events. Recall that they pulled this land out of the town of Summerfield into unincorporated Guilford County.
There is no recourse for residents of Summerfield if the city goes along with Couch. At least I don’t see one.
I agree, Fred. The whole thing stinks, and it has ever since the Republicans in the General Assembly decided to reward Couch for his campaign contributions.
