We had posted here previously about the Davidson County schools’ suspension of a high school student for using the term “illegal alien”. Their zeal to enforce a questionable speech code is breathtaking.
The boy’s family sued to remove the suspension, and the school board is fighting the lawsuit.
Once again, Davidson County is heavily Republican. This suspension should never have happened; and the school board ought not be opposing this lawsuit.
This series of events illustrates that there is a major problem with the manner in which school boards are elected in the state of North Carolina. How can such a pathetic group of lefties get elected in a heavily Republican county? We need to look at all the dynamics that produce such a school board, and perhaps implement reforms at the state level so that these boards are not likely to misuse their authority.
