We had posted here earlier this week that Cone Health is paying $5 million to build a community complex in east Greensboro, effectively transferring monies that had been initially provided to the hospital system through tax dollars, federal deficit dollars, customer payments and health insurance premiums. Cone Health paid out what it overcharged all of these people.
Now, an article in the Triad Business Journal tells us more:
- The total price tag of the community complex is $70 million;
- Up to $60 million is being provided through bond monies;
- $15 million is provided by the county via American Rescue Plan funds from the federal government;
- Cone Health is spending a total of $150 million on “health equity”– again, using monies overcharged that were obtained from the above sources. This is a transfer to approved victim groups.
Does any of this make you feel better about the whole thing?
