Beware Alston’s “One Guilford”

Skip Alston is hyping a planned “State of the County” address to be given on Wednesday, September 20 according to the Rhino Times. He and the county are planning to make it a big deal.

The theme is “One Guilford: Building Stronger Communities Together”. Lots of people are being invited including “mayors, community leaders, and federal and state elected officials”.

I think the people of Guilford County who reside outside of Greensboro need to beware. I don’t know what he has in store, but there have been hints over the last year or two.

There is an agenda to make the rest of Guilford County more like Greensboro– more developed, more urbanized, more dense, more unsafe, more multicultural. Put succinctly, they want to bring Greensboro to the remainder of Guilford County. They want to do this by bringing water to outlying areas and by loosening up zoning rules.

Again, I don’t know what Alston plans to say. But I remember very few times over three decades that he has said or done anything even remotely good.

  1. If Alston has a “common sense plan” that will be “beneficial to everyone” you can bet your bottom dollar it will be neither.
