City of Greensboro Paid Off Gun Show Operator to Go Away

This is not a new story. But I felt it might be instructive to inform readers who are unaware.

Let’s think back a few years. Do you remember how Lt. Governor Mark Robinson instantly became a nationwide sensation? He was an ordinary citizen who lived around Greensboro and who ventured to speak at a City Council meeting. The city was planning to do away with gun shows at the Greensboro Coliseum, and he objected vehemently. His scolding of city council members at the speaker’s podium went viral, and the rest is history.

But the city still stopped the gun shows.

And it turns out a gentleman from Stokesdale owned the rights to these gun shows at the Coliseum. In order to prevent the shows from taking place, the city bought him out. This article indicates that $375,000 was paid.

Citizens were made aware of the decision to move away from hosting gun shows before Mark Robinson’s appearance at the City Council. The monthly newsletter the city sends to residents with water bills contained this information.

This is merely one more manifestation of the local political culture’s bias to the far left end of the political spectrum. And interestingly, as cities like Greensboro fail on matters related to crime control, more citizens buy guns– and more citizens carry concealed. Our esteemed city leaders might have canceled the gun shows, but they effectively sold more guns.

  1. The Peoples Republic of Greensboro never fails to miss important public policy priorities and instead focuses on BS like the Gun Shows.

  2. Every day when Mayor Vaughn wakes up she knows that the highest ranking black politician in NC history is a Republican and is in Raleigh solely as a result of her anti-gun show shenanigans.
She had to do something for spite.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

    1. Jaycee, I think Vaughan and the rest of them were maneuvering to make this happen. And you are right– when their moves made Mark Robinson a celebrity, that made it more certain they would follow through with their plans. Of course, I keep seeing articles about how many more guns are being sold, and how many more people are carrying. So I guess the jackasses did not get the outcome they were seeking.
