North Carolina Senate GOP Majority At Risk?

We knew the morning following the election that the Raleigh Republicans had lost control of the NC House. I was not aware until late yesterday that the GOP majority in the NC Senate also was at risk. That seemed unthinkable, but here we are.

The balance as of right now based on Tuesday night’s results is 26-24 in favor of the GOP. However, there is one more race still to be finalized. The Republican Danny Britt is ahead by 268 votes. There will likely be a recount. In addition, there are provisional, overseas and military ballots yet to be counted. WRAL reports the existence of 825 provisional ballots.

If Britt were to lose, there would be a tie, and the socialist lieutenant governor would break the tie. That would be really bad for the state of North Carolina.

It will take until much later this month for all the dust to clear. Lawyers will be heavily involved. Fortunately, the GOP controls the State Board of Elections.

    1. I’m really hoping and praying this particular seat will be retained by the GOP, Fred. Otherwise, we are in a bad situation. The Democrats today are not the same as the “business progressives” of two decades ago.
