The News and Record has an article that dramatizes how an upcoming constitutional amendment on the ballot would deprive the county government in both Guilford and Forsyth counties upwards of $110 million dollars.
The article is written from the standpoint of how the amendment would affect county government functions. It presumes these governments have an eternal right to increase property taxes without limitation.
It is NOT written from the standpoint of the taxpayer; and how the amendment would limit the amount local politicians could increase property taxes. It does NOT explain that the amendment will not force these politicians to CUT taxes.
It does not explain that the motivation for this amendment was the fact that revaluations had skyrocketed, and urban counties were poised to capitalize on these higher revaluations by passively raising tax revenues without raising the tax rate.
This is a shameful piece of analytical writing that has virtually no regard for the taxpayer. It is what we have come to expect from our corrupt media.

The same thought had occurred to me, Fred. That writer had basically adopted the vantage point of the county government and the socialist commissioners; and had acted as their advocate.
