Vance’s public distance from Hagee’s theology and his insistence that even close allies do not always share identical national interests have already intensified hostility from the NeverVance coalition—dispensationalists, neoconservatives, K Street lobbyists, the status-quo “donor community,” and bitter-end fusionists alike. The charge of “isolationism” or worse is ready at hand.
