Carolina Journal had an article this week that highlighted the fact that private schools (including Christian and Catholic schools) last year experienced their biggest increase in enrollment in more than forty years.
That ought to be a matter of celebration because it diverts students away from public schools. Right?
But wait a minute. I saw another story this week that is not entirely unrelated.
The state of Maine has an analogous program. A federal appeals court ruled that Christian schools there must adopt the state’s LGBT policies in order to qualify for state tuition money.
Maine is more liberal than the state of North Carolina, but it is not a flaming socialist state.
What is occurring in the state of Maine will one day also occur in the state of North Carolina when the socialists regain control of state government. I don’t know when that will be. But you can count on it.
Christian schools that accept voucher money are setting themselves up to be dependent on those monies when that day arrives. They will be forced to acquiesce with the socialists on LGBT policies in order to keep the cash flowing. And nearly all of the Christian schools in our region are accepting voucher monies.
Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. (-:
Doctors learned that with Medicare, Fred; and teachers learned it with No Child Left Behind. The lure of governmental funding can be accompanied by prodigious requirements you might not want to meet– but that you will be forced to meet.
