I was married in 1959 in Newport News, Virginia. I didn’t have the resources for or time for an exotic honeymoon.
Instead I took my bride to Washington, DC for a short and memorable tour of the Capital city.
We made all the tourist stops, Among them was the Jefferson Memorial. I was struck by the majesty of this site. To a young couple it was awesome.
Years latter I took my two daughters to visit it.
I think I have photographs somewhere of this trip.
Fred, “reading the walls” is the highlight of the visit. It’s a great visit because it captures so well the ideas behind the American founding.
