We can be thankful for the degree of federalism the US Empire retains.
Yet if the states–not intended ever to be provinces, but States– retained the autonomy with which the original 13 States joined the Union, the US would be a much freer, more prosperous country than it is. Especially less war-like.
I agree, J. Sobran. Some critical errors have been made; and the lust for power overtook many of the “public servants” at the national level– executive, legislative, judicial, administrative– almost since the beginning.
