Duke’s Boozer Brothers And IVF

Some readers might have followed the recent NCAA basketball tournament. Duke’s team featured the twin Boozer brothers.

World Magazine reports that these two individuals were products of in vitro fertilization. Typically, the process creates many embryos to produce one or two that are selected and allowed to live long-term.

These Boozer brothers therefore likely have a number of siblings that, according to the article, were likely discarded (or allowed to die). That is not a good thing.

  1. I’m curious why is it that the Bible doesn’t make mention of potential alternative forms of conception and if in vitro fertilization is even considered “conception” by God.

Obviously, when the Bible alludes to conception, it is understood to be between men and women. Is in vitro fertilization considered conception? Is the concept itself evil or sorcery?

If not, then performing the protocol for IVF would be just as cruel and even moreso painstaking for the mother of the goal is to conceive while utilizing one embryo at a time, correct?

Not trying to play any games here; I think this proposes a serious philosophical problem that I happen to have never considered. What do you think?

    1. Bran, I think IVF is a modern-day parallel to the Tower of Babel in the Bible. Man, fueled by pridefulness, achieves a technical feat that is outside of God’s will and that represents a form of rebellion against His established order. God has laid down his natural design and order for reproduction.

I’m not sure if I can answer all the questions you raise, but when the impact is to create human lives to be destroyed, something is severely amiss and in opposition to God’s will.
