The News and Record has an article celebrating the fact that State Senator Michael Garrett had a social media post that went viral.
Garrett made the case in his post that the Bad Bunny Super Bowl performance was a very good thing.
What are the problems with the News and Record article?
First, the Bad Bunny performance is the most recent symbol of the cultural– indeed, the spiritual– war that divides our country. The News and Record obviously takes a side in that war– on the dark side.
Second, it is self-evident media bias.
Third– and this ought to concern the paper’s ownership from a practical standpoint– it utilizes precious journalistic resources on absolute fluff. Let’s remember– newspapers have been decimated to the extent they no longer have sufficient numbers of journalists to do real reporting. They ought to be pursuing stories with a bent toward holding local and state government accountable, and protecting people from bad government. Instead, they choose to prop up a socialist politician with a puff piece.
There are several reasons newspapers have been losing huge numbers of subscribers– and this is one of them.

I found it striking, Fred, that they publish this garbage when their reporting resources have been cut to the bone and they can’t do their proper jobs anymore. Bad management. Bad ownership.
