The history of the FBI is one of corruption–from its earliest Prohibition days to WWII grandstanding to Hoover’s blackmailing, coziness with the Mafia, covering up the CIA murder of JFK, & persecution of MLK to present day functioning as the SS for the ruling class.
It is unfortunate, J. Sobran, that seems to be the reality. Many of us trusted the FBI for many years; and parts of it did good work, at least at times.
Efrem Zimbalist’s FBI was probably just propaganda, Triad, a mirage. Look at how they handled the Atlanta Olympic bombing in the 1990s.
It was putrid under Hoover. Did you know that he devoted FBI resources to finding dirt on all the members of the Warren Commission? Gimme an innocent explanation for that. They spied on Goldwater for LBJ. They spied on VP Hubert Humphrey for LBJ (which I find particularly revealing re LBJ).
A number of folks have argued we ought to get rid of it and start over again somehow. Might be the best thing to do.
