The Forsyth County Student Agitators

The local news has been abuzz regarding the student demonstrations against budget cuts and terminations within the Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County Schools system.

I remember when I was a high school student in the New York City school system back during the 1970’s, the city faced a budget crisis because of profligate spending. The schools faced severe budget cuts. In response, the schools organized students so they would hold a rally against the cuts and contact their elected officials.

I have little doubt that is what is happening in Forsyth County. I doubt very strongly that the students’ demonstrations developed organically. Instead, the local education establishment somehow spurred them to act.

The students’ unhappiness ought to be directed to the county school board and the other leadership of the county schools system. They are the parties responsible for the extraordinarily poor management and excessive spending that put them in this mess. If the students are going to vent, it ought to be with them.

  1. At Glenn High School, it was said the students are protesting because 3 bureaucrats were going to have to return to the classroom and actually teach.

Hard to imagine that causing students to protest organically, in line with what you said Triad.

    1. It’s all very suspicious, of course, J. Sobran. The local education establishment obviously wants to place pressure on county commissioners or the General Assembly to bail out the school system, and fund them at a higher level to enshrine their profligacy.
