I was unfamiliar, Fred, also. There were so many signers of the Declaration, and so many who were part of the Constitutional Convention, but we know mostly about maybe a handful.
Golly, as much as I have read of the Founder’s era, Stephen Hopkins was completely unfamiliar. Many, many important heroes are unsung, such as Jimmy Otis and Dr. Joseph Warren of Massachusetts (because they were casualties of the violence early on). Many of the Signers suffered a lot (little mentioned) from the War. Jefferson in particular but others even much worse.
History gets lost so quickly, so routinely. Thanks Triad.
I think we really need to re-introduce the American people to a very detailed study of the period around the founding, J. Sobran. And that would include folks of all ages, from the very young to the very old.
