This project has been ongoing for many years, and is reflected in the large numbers of socialist judges throughout the lower courts. There are currently only three on the US Supreme Court.
I dispute the speaker in the below video indicating the court is now originalist. It is not reliably ruling in this direction. In fact, only two of the Republican justices are consistently originalist– Thomas and Alito. But they have issued many good decisions over the last few years:
The Democrat proposal to pack the Supreme Court would threaten the judiciary’s
important role and the public’s trust in it. The plan injects partisan politics into the
institution, threatening its independence and putting politics before legal principle.
That is precisely what they were able to do for many decades, Fred. They are grieving having lost that prerogative with many cases heard before the court.
The tide really didn’t turn until Trump was able to confirm three justices during his first term. But even then, there are still lapses.
Triad, you are right: only Alito and Thomas attempt to be true to the Constitution as it was intended. This is the Supreme Ct. that said it was perfectly fine for the Biden administration to censor Americans via the tech titans–that the 1st Amendment was just a suggestion. That refused to look at any evidence of 2020 election irregularities via an absurd “standing” ruling. That the Constitution does not require a Declaration of War by both houses of Congress for the President to prosecute these massive wars from Afghanistan to Iraq to Iran…
That the Dems want to make the Court worse doesn’t mean at all that it is especially good. Nor is it designed to be good, composed of 9 politicians in black robes appointed for life and accountable to no one. They very largely rule in favor of the Leviathan that pays their salary and gives them prestige.
I agree, J. Sobran, but in all fairness I think there has been some improvement over the last few years. Perhaps the antics of the left with the leakage of the Dobbs decision made some of the weaker GOP-appointed justices feel a bit more emboldened.
