New York: A Documentary Film

I had the opportunity to review the PBS documentary about New York a few days ago. It runs four hours.

As a PBS production, it certainly has more than its share of cultural and political bias. But it also contains some good information of which I was previously unaware. It focuses on the history of New York since the end of World War II.

A couple of interesting tidbits: the military plane that struck the Empire State Building, and buildings torched by owners to collect insurance money after jobs and industries left New York. The documentary producers, by the way, LOVE Mike Bloomberg.

You can view it online here.

  1. I TRAVELED TO NYC MULTIPLE OCCASIONS ON OFFICIAL BUSINESS AND ALWAYS THE MILFORD PLAZA HOTEL NEAR HE PORT AUTHORITY AND LOCATED AT 700 8th Ave (between 44th and 45th Streets ). IT HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE 1928 . IT IS VERY HISTORIC AND CLOSE TO A LOT OF POULAR VENUES . THEIR LOBBY BAR MAKES AN EXCELLENT MARTINI. ON OCCASIONS I WOULD DINE AT MOMMA MIA’S ……LOCATED ON 9th AVE

NEW YORK USED TO BE A NICE PLACE TO VISIT …..NOT SO MUCH NOWADAYS.

WE STAYED AT THE MILFORD PLAZA .

THE GOOD OLE DAYS IN THE EARLY 80’s. YOU STILL COULD WALK CENTRAL PARK.

    1. What was interesting for me about the documentary, Fred? I remember many of the topics discussed because I was a young person growing up in New York who read the papers and who paid attention to things. I guess I am old enough to remember what is regarded as history.:)
