George Hartzman has a piece that reveals city of Greensboro leaders expressed embarrassment over the fact that Randall Kaplan has not built his downtown hotel. This is after he had spent many years lobbying the city for money to build an adjacent parking deck.
Taxpayers are spending $43 million on the parking deck in order to facilitate his hotel. The city council members who voted for his project were engaging in pay-to-play. Kaplan and his wife, former Congresswoman Kathy Manning, are local mega-donors to political campaigns.
So we now have a parking deck with no hotel. I suppose downtown can use the parking spaces…
