Fox 8 reports they are asking for more money from the Guilford Board of County Commissioners even though the county budget was only passed a couple of weeks ago.
By my recollection, the county commissioners do not have ready access to the county schools system’s finances. They are not able to judge how the school system spends its money; and they have virtually no control over that spending.
The school system keeps asking for more money even though there is declining demand for traditional public schools. Reduced fertility, charter schools, home schooling and the state scholarship program for private schools all have caused enrollment to languish.
The GCS’s appetite for more money is insatiable. Their budget is severely bloated already.
I agree, Fred. And it is opaque. Nobody knows the degree to which they are wasting money.
