All of a sudden, there is much more chatter about the prospects of the state of North Carolina landing an MLB team.
If this happens, it is most likely to be located around Raleigh. That is, in large part, because of the huge success of the Carolina Hurricanes franchise there and the fact that its owner– Tom Dundon– also wants to own the new MLB team.
Both Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger and Governor Josh Stein are speaking favorably about the project. The major downside is that it would be associated with a massive infusion of taxpayer dollars to help build a stadium.
Many of us have learned to restrain our enthusiasm for professional sports because the leagues are oft aligned with the pro-LGBTQ, anti-Christian, cultural Marxist zeitgeist. Fortunately, the NC House Speaker, Destin Hall, is asking questions and expressing skepticism.
